Show of hands… Who lives for the mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving? I’ve made many many servings of mashed potatoes in my life. Most contained your basic ingredients like butter and milk, but I felt like I needed to kick things up a notch and create some truly amazing for our Thanksgiving feast. This post contains the recipe for the MOST perfect mashed potatoes you will ever eat. You can thank me later.
Of course, cream cheese had to be one of the stand out ingredients of this tasty dish. Finding the balance was where it got a little tricky. Not enough and you aren’t able to taste the creamy goodness, but too much and it overpowers the delicate flavor of the potatoes. I also decided to add a little garlic but that was met with mixed reviews. What it comes down to is this…
If you love garlic, like I do, then add it in. If you feel like your family might not love the zing it adds you can leave it out. Simple, right?
- 3 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/3 cup fresh parmesan
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 4 oz cream cheese
- 1 tablespoon chives, chopped (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic (optional)
- Salt and pepper
- Boil your potatoes until you can easily pierce with a fork. Drain and place into a large bowl.
- Add the butter, parmesan, milk, cream cheese, chives, and garlic. Mash until smooth and season with salt and pepper.
I love how adaptable this recipe can be. Add or takeaway a few ingredients and you have a completely new flavor. Pair this recipe with an easy turkey gravy for an easy side dish that is sure to impress. Whether this is going to be served for Thanksgiving, Sunday dinner, or just any ol’ occasion… You will not be disappointed.3
