This Butter Pecan Syrup adds a fun and sweet topping to pancakes, waffles, or french toast!
We’re starting a new tradition here in the OSA house. We call it “Pancake Sunday.” It is exactly what it sounds like. Every Sunday we whip up a special batch of pancakes to share as a family and talk about our week. There are a few rules we HAVE to follow to ensure a fun experience:
1. NEW pancake flavors every week. If we don’t change the pancake we have to change the topping.
2. NO phones. All of our electronic devices go directly into a bin. We cannot touch them for a minimum of two hours.
3. Everyone cooks.
I know it seems like a silly and simple task but it’s one I’ve already started to cherish. Quality time is so rare these days. My little guy is getting more and more friends and seems to jet out the door every chance he gets. This day is one that we look forward to every single week. Picking the new pancake theme of flavor is somewhat of an event in itself and having our kid bounce into our room at 6am the day of lets me know he’s excited too. Little things like this are family traditions I hope we will continue and soak in for years to come.
But back to this syrup. It is AMAZING. You start with butter and toast your chopped pecans which instantly fills your home with the most amazing fall scent. I just want to cuddle up with cocoa and start watching Christmas movies. It’s like adding an extra layer of comfort to your breakfast which is A-OK in my book.
Truth? We were hoping to recreate the Butter Pecan Syrup you find at IHOP. It is my fave and I wanted to force my little guy to love it with me. This recipe is better. When I topped his pancakes with chopped nut goodness he gave me the death look, but I have never ever seen his plate get cleaned faster. He inhaled every single bite. Needless to say, we will be making this again very soon!
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Melt your butter in a medium sauce pan. Add your nuts and cook until fragrant, about 1-3 minutes.
- Add your syrup and sprinkle with salt. Continue to cook 5 minutes or until thickened.
