It’s hard to believe that MONDAY is the LAST day of 2012!
Typically we celebrate by climbing into bed and attempting to watch a movie before falling asleep… BUT this year we are getting a little crazy. Ok… not really. I told my husband that he’s making me feel so old, and I’m only 25! So we invited my little sister over for a night of Just Dance & some fun party foods!
New Years screams finger foods to me. We will be making bruschetta, polenta crostini, and meatball sliders. Of course, no party is complete without a little sparkly drink! The only problem is that my sister is only 18. No alcohol for her! So are three NON-ALCOHOLIC versions of a spritzer:
(recipe found in January issue of Family Circle)
1 orange, zested into strips
8 sprigs fresh mint
1 lime, zested into strips
1 (1-inch) piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
1 cup frozen raspberries, divided
3 cups water
3 cups sugar
4 bottles chilled sparkling water
2 bottles of prosecco, 1 bottle flavored vodka (for the 21 & older
Place the orange zest and 4 sprigs of mint in a bowl. Place the lime and ginger in another bowl. Place 3/4 cup of raspberries in a third bowl. Set aside.
In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then evenly divide the liquid among the three bowls. Stir each gently to combine. Let them cool to room temperature. Pour each into a jar or syrup pitcher, and refrigerate until you are ready to use.
When your guests have arrived, and it’s time to get things rolling, set out glasses, syrups, and sparkling water. Have the guests create their own drinks by mixing three tablespoons of the syrup with sparkling water. If they are over the age of 21, you can have them mix in a shot of vodka or prosecco.
And there you have it folks! Three fun spritzer-ish drinks. I love that 90% of the prep is done beforehand. That means less fuss the day of your party. They syrups will stay good up to two weeks if you keep them tightly sealed and in the refrigerator. I hope you all have a fantastic new year celebration! See you in 2013!
