One word… Chocolate. It’s something that most people love, and when added to a pecan pie recipe you get something that is out of this world delicious! Let’s start with a little back story… A few years ago my brother and sister in-law brought a chocolate pecan pie to the big Thanksgiving get-together. I love pecans but not such a big fan of chocolate, so I was hesitant. But after hearing rave reviews over this thing I decided to get a small slice…
It was A-MAZ-ING.
The best part of this whole story is that when I asked my sister in-law for the recipe she simply said, “We just googled it.” Like it was no big deal. They just brought the best pie ever to the party, and weren’t even the slightest bit conceded about it! That could be part of the reason they are one of my favorites.
So here it is… the famous pie! I had to give it a little twist, but it’s just as amazing as I remembered it.
- 2-1/4 cups pecans, divided
- 1 cup mini chocolate chips
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 slightly baked pie crust
- Spread 1-3/4 cups of your pecans in the bottom of your pie shell. Sprinkle with the chocolate chips. Use the rest of your pecans to create an even layer on the top for a more put together look.
- Whisk together the eggs, sugars, syrup, and vanilla. Pour over the top of your pie.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until the center is set.
recipe only slightly adapted from Emeril Lagasse
This pie was so easy. I could hardly believe how quickly things came together. I had it ready to put in the oven before the oven had time to preheat! Talk about convenient.
If you want to try out the braided edge… here’s what I did: Roll out one 9 inch pie crust. Use a pizza cutter to slice 1/4 inch strips. Braid and brush water along the edge of your pie to attach. The only downside that I’ve seen to this would be that there is one small piece of edging with the start/end mark. But I feel like pie doesn’t have to be perfect. If the flavor shines, no one will remember what it looked like!

This is a super rich and decadent dessert. I could barely finish one slice on my own. Next time I think I’ll try it with a little vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
