Summer is here and that means we are all spending extra time around our grills! Give your favorite chicken or rib recipe a makeover with the best homemade BBQ sauce! The slightly sweet and tangy flavor is just what your recipes call for!
You guys, how have I made it into my 30’s without making my own condiments? I mean, I have been known to whip up a salad dressing occasionally but this BBQ sauce is a whole new ballgame. It is incredibly simple and packed with flavor. If you haven’t already tried making your own I suggest you dip your toes into the world of sauces this summer and give this recipe a try.
A few tips before you dive right in. First, this recipe is definitely a sweet sauce with a little spicy kick. I am a huge fan of Sweet Baby Ray’s (but really, who isn’t??) and decided this needed a sweet start with a good spicy finish just like their brand. The only problem is that I have a 9 year old that is NOT sold on the idea. I toned it down a notch or two and was left with a delicious sauce that pairs perfectly with so many things. If you want less sweetness I suggest adding less sugar.
Second, be brave with your spices. We have made this several times and a few game changing additions are: liquid smoke, smoked paprika, no garlic, lots of garlic, and less pepper. All have been absolutely delightful.
If you have leftovers you can easily store in a mason jar. Tighten a lid on top and toss it into the refrigerator for a week or so. This makes an excellent neighbor gift or a fun treat to share with your loved ones. Make sure to print your favorite barbecue recipe and tie to the jar!
