Gently wash your strawberries and pat dry. They should be dry before proceeding to the next step.
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave (see below). Add a teaspoon or two of shortening, if needed, to slightly thin the chocolate if you find it to be too thick.
Line a baking sheet or plate with parchment paper.
Holding the berry by the top or stem, dip into the melted chocolate. Lift and twist slightly to allow the excess chocolate to fall back into the cup or bowl.
Set onto the prepared parchment paper to allow to set.
Repeat with the remaining fruit.

How to melt chocolate in a double broiler:
Place the chocolate into a heat proof medium sized bowl and set aside.
Fill a medium saucepan with 2 to 3 inches of water, making sure the water does not touch to bowl when set on top.
Bring the water to a boil. Turn off the stove and remove it from the heat.
Place the bowl of chocolate on top of the heated water. Stir until the chocolate is smooth.
How to melt chocolate in the microwave:
Place the chocolate in a medium heat safe bowl.
Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove and stir.
Continue to heat in 15 second intervals, stirring between each cycle, until the chocolate is smooth and melted.
