Ingredients

  • 16 oz cottage cheese
  • 6 oz orange jello
  • 2 (10.5oz) cans mandarin oranges drained
  • 1 (8oz) can crushed pineapple drained
  • 8 oz whipped topping like cool whip

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cottage cheese with the orange Jello mix. Stir well until the Jello powder is fully incorporated into the cottage cheese.
  • Drain the liquid from the two cans of mandarin oranges and the can of crushed pineapple. This step is important to avoid making the salad too watery.
  • Gently fold the drained mandarin oranges and crushed pineapple into the cottage cheese and Jello mixture. Be careful not to break up the orange segments too much.
  • Fold the entire container of whipped topping into the mixture. Gently stir until everything is evenly combined and the salad has a light, fluffy texture.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the mixture to a serving dish and cover it. Refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or until the Jello salad is fully set and chilled through.
  • Once chilled, your orange Jello salad is ready to serve. Scoop it into bowls or onto plates and enjoy this refreshing, creamy treat!

Notes

  • Use Cold Ingredients: Ensure all ingredients, especially the Cool Whip and fruit, are well chilled before mixing. This helps the salad set more quickly and evenly.
  • Gentle Folding: When incorporating the fruit and Cool Whip, fold gently to maintain the fruit’s shape and the fluffy texture of the whipped topping.
  • Chill Time: Allow the salad to chill for at least 4 hours, or overnight if possible. This ensures the Jello sets properly and the flavors meld together.
  • Enhance Flavor: For an extra burst of flavor, you can add a splash of orange juice or zest from an orange when mixing the cottage cheese and Jello.
