Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 small green pepper diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz can diced tomatoes undrained
  • 16 oz can tomato sauce
  • 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • 1. Add the ground beef, onion, and green pepper to a large skillet. Cook on medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion and pepper are soft.
  • 2. Add the garlic and cook one minute more.
  • 3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, bay leaf, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  • 4. Bring to a simmer and cook one hour.
  • 5. Serve over your favorite cooked pasta.

Notes

This recipe is easy to customize. Try adding Italian sausage in place of half of the meat or stir in your favorite vegetables for even more added flavor!
You could also add an extra half pound of ground beef for a more hearty sauce.
