Set your oven to 350°F so it’s ready when the casserole goes in.
In a medium casserole dish, stir together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper until smooth. Add the green beans and ⅔ cup of the fried onions. Stir until everything is evenly coated.
Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the mixture is hot and bubbling around the edges.
Carefully remove from the oven, sprinkle the remaining onions evenly over the top, and return to the oven for 5 minutes, or until the onions are crisp and golden brown.
Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.
Notes
No crispy onions? Try plain potato chips or crushed Ritz crackers. Want to use fresh green beans? Substitute 1-1/2 lbs fresh beans for the canned. Be sure to boil for 5 to 8 minutes or until slightly softened.
