Ingredients

  • 3 fajita flour tortillas
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil we like avocado oil or canola oil
  • 3 tabelspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Cut the flour tortillas into triangle shapes, similar to nacho chips. The best method is to cut the tortillas in half. Then, cut each half into wedges. Depending on the size of your tortillas and how large you want your chips, each half can be cut into 3 to 4 triangles.
  • Lightly brush both sides of the tortilla pieces with oil. This helps them crisp up without being too heavy.
  •  In a small bowl, mix the granulated white sugar and ground cinnamon.
  • Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture generously over both sides of the oiled tortilla pieces.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • Place a single layer of the tortilla pieces in the basket, ensuring they don’t overlap for even cooking. Cook for about 5-8 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. The cooking time might vary depending on your air fryer.
  • Let the churro chips cool for a few minutes after frying. They will crisp up a bit more as they cool. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Even Oil Application: Use a brush for an even, light coating of oil on both sides of the tortilla pieces. This helps with even cooking and crispiness.
  • Uniform Size: Cut the tortillas into uniform shapes and sizes for consistent cooking. Inconsistent sizes lead to some chips cooking faster than others.
  • Avoid Overcrowding: Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overlapping in the air fryer. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking.
  • Let Them Cool: Allow the chips to cool for a few minutes after cooking. They crisp up more as they cool.
