All of the coffee memes online apply to me. My day does not start until I pour that first cup. I like to think I am getting pretty darn good and brewing coffee at home. Coming up with new ways to add flavor is a passion and this easy coffee recipe is one of my all-time favorites.
I have always been a fan of the flavor of cinnamon and had the most incredible latte while visiting a darling coffee shop in Northern California this summer. When I asked for the secret they quickly told me they added ground cinnamon to the coffee grounds.
Genius.
After some testing, I’ve found the absolute perfect way to brew coffee with cinnamon.
Cinnamon Drip Coffee Recipe
Ingredients for this recipe are key. I like to use fresh ground coffee beans (you can find my current favorite here), ground cinnamon, and one or two packets of sweetener (my favorites can be found here). With just a handful of items, most likely already in your pantry, you can get brewing in no time!
Ingredients for cinnamon coffee:
- Coffee grounds
- Ground cinnamon
- Water
- Sugar or Splenda
- Whipped cream
What does putting cinnamon in your coffee do?
Adding cinnamon to your coffee has a number of health benefits, all of which can be found with a quick online search. It also adds flavor and a slight sweetness.
How do you add cinnamon to coffee?
There are two ways we have found best to add cinnamon to coffee. Follow the steps below for a great flavor boost to your morning cup of coffee:
- Add ground cinnamon to the coffee grounds before brewing.
- Stir a cinnamon stick into your brewed coffee cup before serving.
Our favorite option is the first, but I have been known to stir in a cinnamon stick when I need added flavor to my coffee.
How much cinnamon do you add to coffee grounds?
This question is really based on personal preference. I find that between one and two teaspoons of ground cinnamon provide just the right amouont of flavor for two brewed cups of coffee.
How to make cinnamon coffee:
- Combine the coffee and cinnamon into the basket of your coffee machine.
- Add the water and brew as directed.
- Stir in desired amount of sugar or Splenda. Top with whipped cream and sprinkled cinnamon if desired.

- 1½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 16 oz water
- sugar or Splenda
- whipped cream (optional)
Instructions
- Combine the coffee and cinnamon into the basket of your coffee machine.
- Add the water and brew as directed.
- Stir in desired amount of sugar or Splenda. Top with whipped cream and sprinkled cinnamon if desired.
