Before You Start Cooking

Making Pizza Bombs is all about keeping things simple but flavorful. With just a handful of everyday ingredients, you’ll have everything you need for a snack that tastes like it came straight from your favorite pizzeria. Here’s what goes into each bite:

  • Canned Biscuits – These are the base of your pizza bombs. They bake up fluffy and golden, creating the perfect pocket for all that cheesy filling.
  • Pizza Sauce – A few spoonful’s of your favorite sauce bring the bold, tangy flavor that makes these taste like mini pizzas.
  • Pepperoni – Use classic slices or chop them up for easier stuffing and more flavor in every bite.
  • Mozzarella Cheese – Shredded mozzarella melts beautifully, giving you that stretchy, gooey pull we all crave.
  • Butter, Italian Seasoning, and Garlic Powder – Brushed on top before baking, this combo adds a savory, herby finish and helps the biscuits brown perfectly.

That’s it! Just a few pantry staples and you’re on your way to a tray of irresistible, cheesy pizza bites.

These pizza biscuits are dangerously good. I made them for a quick snack, and my family polished off the entire batch before they even cooled. The biscuit dough turns buttery and golden, while the melted mozzarella and pepperoni inside taste just like a bite-sized pizza. They’re fun, filling, and almost too easy to whip up.

Tip from Jesseca:

Don’t overfill the biscuits. A little sauce, cheese, and pepperoni goes a long way. This keeps them sealed tight and prevents messy leaks while baking.

Variations and Substitutions

One of the best parts about this appetizer is how easy they are to customize. You can switch things up based on what you already have in the fridge or to match your favorite pizza flavors:

  • Cheese Swap – Mozzarella is classic, but cheddar, provolone, or a blend of Italian cheeses can give a fun twist.
  • Different Meats – Try cooked sausage crumbles, ham, or even shredded chicken in place of pepperoni.
  • Veggie Lovers – Add finely chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or olives for a veggie-packed bite. Just keep fillings small so the biscuits seal well.
  • Sauce Options – Marinara is great, but Alfredo or pesto can make these taste completely different and just as delicious.
  • Dough Alternatives – If you don’t have canned biscuits, use pizza dough or crescent roll dough for a slightly different texture.

With these swaps, every batch can feel new. Whether you’re going for classic pepperoni, loaded veggie, or something more creative.

Pizza Bombs Recipe

These are one of those recipes that look impressive but come together in minutes. With just biscuits, a little filling, and a quick bake, you’ve got a snack or dinner idea everyone will love.

  1. Prep the dough: Cut each biscuit in half and press into small circles. This gives you the perfect base for wrapping the filling.
  2. Add the filling: Spoon a little pizza sauce in the center, top with cheese and a slice of pepperoni, then pull the dough up and around to seal tightly into a ball.
  3. Finish and bake: Brush with seasoned garlic butter, arrange on a baking sheet, and bake at 375°F until golden brown and bubbly inside (about 15–20 minutes).

These little pockets are endlessly customizable. Serve them hot with extra pizza sauce for dipping and you’ll have an instant crowd-pleaser.

Helpful Tools

Having the right tools on hand makes this recipe even easier to pull together. While you don’t need anything fancy, a few kitchen basics will save you time and help your pizza bombs turn out perfectly.

  • Baking Sheet: A standard cookie sheet works perfectly for baking these evenly.
  • Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mat: Keeps the bottoms from sticking and makes cleanup quick.
  • Pastry Brush: Ideal for brushing the garlic butter mixture over the tops before baking.
  • Small Mixing Bowl: For stirring together the melted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  • Measuring Spoons: Helpful for portioning out the sauce and seasonings consistently.

With these simple tools, you’ll breeze through prep and cleanup, leaving more time to enjoy the cheesy goodness once they’re out of the oven.

Tips for Success

  • Seal tightly: Pinch the dough firmly around the filling so the cheese doesn’t leak out while baking.
  • Don’t overfill: A little sauce and cheese go a long way. Too much will make it hard to close the biscuit.
  • Use parchment paper: It keeps the bottoms from sticking and makes cleanup easier.
  • Add extra flavor: Sprinkle grated Parmesan or more Italian seasoning on top before baking for a pizzeria-style finish.
  • Serve fresh: These taste best straight from the oven when the cheese is melty and gooey.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use a different dough instead of canned biscuits?

Yes! Pizza dough or crescent roll dough both work well, though the texture will be slightly different.

Do I need to pre-cook the pepperoni?

Nope—pepperoni is already cooked and will crisp slightly as the bombs bake.

How do I keep the cheese from leaking out?

Make sure you don’t overfill and pinch the seams of the biscuit dough tightly. Rolling the ball in your hands after sealing helps too.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes. You can assemble them a few hours in advance and refrigerate until ready to bake. Brush with garlic butter just before they go in the oven.

Can I add more fillings?

Absolutely. Just keep the pieces small—like diced veggies, sausage crumbles, or extra cheese—so the biscuit seals properly.

Storage and Make-Ahead Instructions

These are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven, but they store and reheat surprisingly well. Here’s how to keep them tasty:

  • Refrigerate: Store cooled pizza bombs in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze: For longer storage, place baked and cooled pizza bombs on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer to a freezer bag and store for up to 2 months. Reheat straight from frozen.
  • Reheat: Warm in the oven or air fryer at 350°F until heated through (about 5–7 minutes from the fridge, 10–12 minutes from frozen). This keeps the biscuit dough crisp. Avoid the microwave if possible, as it can make the bread soggy.
  • Make Ahead: Assemble the bombs up to 6 hours in advance and keep them covered in the refrigerator. Brush with the garlic butter just before baking for the best results.

That way, whether you’re planning ahead for game day or saving leftovers, your pizza bombs will still taste fresh and delicious.

Cook: 15 minutes
Serves: 4
These easy Pizza biscuits are made with biscuit dough stuffed with pizza sauce, mozzarella, and pepperoni, then brushed with garlic butter and baked until golden. A quick, cheesy snack or dinner everyone will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 can biscuit dough (8 count)
  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • 8 slices pepperoni
  • 2 oz mozzarella cheese (cut into 8 small cubes or use about 1 teaspoon shredded per bomb)
  • 1 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  • Open the can of biscuits and separate them. Using your hands or the back of a measuring cup, press each biscuit into a flat circle.
  • Place about ½ teaspoon of pizza sauce in the middle of the dough circle. Add a small cube of mozzarella cheese and one slice of pepperoni on top of the sauce.
  • Gently pull the edges of the dough up and over the filling, pinching tightly to seal. Roll it into a ball with your hands, making sure no sauce or cheese is peeking out.
  • In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Brush this mixture over the tops of each dough ball.
  • Arrange the prepared pizza bombs on the baking sheet, leaving a little space between each. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving—they’ll be piping hot inside! Serve with extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping.
