The Hoover Dam

Sharing is caring!

It’s been a while since I’ve thrown one of these up. Figured I would let you all know a little about what we have been up to lately. Story starts with a little announcement. In just two short weeks we will be making the trek from Utah to North Carolina for the summer (or maybe longer). That’s a long distance away which made us realize we need to do some sight seeing before we head off. We headed to Vegas…

And then to a little retreat with my husbands office to boulder city (more on that later). Since we were so close we figured we should see the Hoover Dam. I have a five year old boy… I was SO sure he would think it was neat. Boys are supposed to like that kind of stuff, right?

I was wrong. Apparently the 726 foot tall 660 foot wide wall that holds back the water from Lake Mead is of little interest to this busy body…

Mom and Dad on the other hand really enjoyed our adventure. I mean… You see these things on TV or in pictures and it really doesn’t do it justice. It’s HUGE. And hard to believe this wall of concrete can supply power to 100,000 households with only one generator.

The one thing that did make my little guy happy? The giant arch bridge that was just across from the dam. We walked across and my little dare devil couldn’t help but lean out and scare me. His giggles are priceless, but seriously… That was way too high for jokes.

Was it worth the visit? Definitely. Would we go back? Yes. Especially when Dax is a little older and a little more patient. We didn’t get the chance to go inside the visitors center thanks to his nagging plea to climb the arch.  Maybe when he is closer to his teens and understands a little more about science and history.

Here is my big question for you! We are driving across the US… Where should we stop and what should we see??
