With every bite you have the rich buttery flavor of the classic cereal treat along with a hefty dose of cookie pieces. Did I mention it is also SUPER simple and ready in under 15-minutes? You just cannot go wrong with cookies and cream krispies.
Oreo Rice Krispie Treats Ingredients
I mentioned that the ingredient list is SUPER short with only 4 ingredients, but did I mention how inexpensive the dessert is? You can have everything you need for just around $15! Perfect if you need to feed a crowd or send treats to a neighbor. Here is what you need to get started:
- Butter: My secret? Salted butter. It boosts the flavor of the chocolate and takes these to the next level. If you only have unsalted on hand, no need to worry! Add a pinch of salt to the melted butter before stirring in the marshmallows.
- Mini Marshmallows: 10 oz, or about 6 cups. Make sure to save 3/4 cup for an added treat to the recipe.
- Rice Cereal: Here’s the deal, we have tested these treats with name brand and with off brand. They both taste equally delicious. Save some money and pick up a large box of off brand for under $2.
- Chocolate Sandwich Cookies: Oreo’s are the brand I reach for, although the Trader Joe’s brand would work as well.
Optional Toppings or Mix-In’s
Alright, we have the list of basics and are ready to get started. But what if you want to add a little more pizzazz? Try some of these addition mix-in and topping ideas:
- White Chocolate Chips: Stir in 1/2 a cup with the cookie pieces.
- Drizzled White Chocolate on top can give you a beautiful finish.
- Additional cookie pieces pushed into the top of the treats before they set will help show guests the flavor.

Tips and FAQs
Yes! We used the classic Oreo cookie, but any of their flavors would be delicious in this recipe. Try the Red Velvet Oreo’s, Golden, or double stuffed for an extra creamy filling.
The best way to store homemade cereal treats is in an airtight container or zip top bag at room temperature. I own an entire set of these OXO baking dishes, which come with snap on lids that are perfect for storing desserts
This recipe can last up to one week, if stored properly. Although, we usually eat them all within a few days.
