These Cookies and Cream Cereal Treats are about to become a staple in your recipe box. The traditional rice krispie treat is combined with milk’s favorite cookie for a dreamy, and addictive, no-bake dessert that will have everyone begging for the recipe!

Recipe inspired by our leftover Oreo cookies and the craving for my classic rice krispie treats. The EASIEST dessert recipe that is always a hit and fun to customize.

Recipe Features

  • 4-Ingredients: You only need FOUR basic ingredients to whip up this dessert bar.
  • No-Bake: Perfect all year, but especially in the summer when you don’t want to heat the house.
  • Ready in under 15 minutes!

If you are anything like me, and have a strong love for Oreo cookies, you will LOVE this recipe. The slight chocolate-y twist is just enough that you’ll be swooning over the flavor. With every bite you have the rich buttery flavor of the classic cereal treat along with a hefty dose of cookie pieces. Did I mention it is also SUPER simple and ready in under 15-minutes? You just cannot go wrong with cookies and cream krispies.

Oreo Rice Krispie Treats Ingredients

I mentioned that the ingredient list is SUPER short with only 4 ingredients, but did I mention how inexpensive the dessert is? You can have everything you need for just around $15! Perfect if you need to feed a crowd or send treats to a neighbor. Here is what you need to get started:

  • Butter: My secret? Salted butter. It boosts the flavor of the chocolate and takes these to the next level. If you only have unsalted on hand, no need to worry! Add a pinch of salt to the melted butter before stirring in the marshmallows.
  • Mini Marshmallows: 10 oz, or about 6 cups. Make sure to save 3/4 cup for an added treat to the recipe.
  • Rice Cereal: Here’s the deal, we have tested these treats with name brand and with off brand. They both taste equally delicious. Save some money and pick up a large box of off brand for under $2.
  • Chocolate Sandwich Cookies: Oreo’s are the brand I reach for, although the Trader Joe’s brand would work as well.

Optional Toppings or Mix-In’s

Alright, we have the list of basics and are ready to get started. But what if you want to add a little more pizzazz? Try some of these addition mix-in and topping ideas:

  • White Chocolate Chips: Stir in 1/2 a cup with the cookie pieces.
  • Drizzled White Chocolate on top can give you a beautiful finish.
  • Additional cookie pieces pushed into the top of the treats before they set will help show guests the flavor.

How to make Cookies & Cream Cereal Treats

  1. Prepare a 9 inch baking pan by spraying with non-stick spray, I suggest baking spray, or lining with parchment paper.
  2. Cut the butter into pieces and place into a large pot.
  3. Melt the butter on the stovetop over medium heat.
  4. Once melted, stir in the marshmallows, making sure to reserve 3/4 cup for later.
  5. Working quickly, remove from the heat and stir in the cereal pieces.
  6. Gently fold in the cookie chunks and remaining marshmallows.
  7. Spread into the prepared pan and gently press down.
  8. Allow to cool and serve.

Tips and FAQs

Can you use other cookies in this recipe?

Yes! We used the classic Oreo cookie, but any of their flavors would be delicious in this recipe. Try the Red Velvet Oreo’s, Golden, or double stuffed for an extra creamy filling.

How do you store homemade rice krispie treats?

The best way to store homemade cereal treats is in an airtight container or zip top bag at room temperature. I own an entire set of these OXO baking dishes, which come with snap on lids that are perfect for storing desserts

How long do rice krispie treats last?

This recipe can last up to one week, if stored properly. Although, we usually eat them all within a few days.

Can you make rice krispie treats in the microwave?

Yes!
Place the butter and marshmallows in a large microwave safe bowl.
Heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring every 1 minute, until melted.
Working quickly, add the cereal and stir to combine fully with the melted marshmallow mixture.
Fold in the cookie pieces and extra marshmallows.
Transfer to your prepared dish. Gently press into an even layer.
Allow the bars to sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Slice and serve!
