This easy strawberry and cream milkshake is made with fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and cool whip! This rich and creamy treat is the perfect ice cream recipe!
We have a long line of ice cream lovers in my family. It is tradition for my dad to take my son out for the frozen treat every time we visit. They take their time at the counter, checking out every flavor, and ALWAYS end up going with a fresh strawberry milkshake. My dad loves to share with his grandson and always lets him have a little more.
This homemade version is as close to the one in the soda shop they love. It is rich, creamy, and loaded with berry flavor. The secret behind this strawberry flavor explosion is fresh berries. In a pinch, you could get away with the frozen version. They taste similar but when you have ripe fresh produce it really makes things shine.
This recipe is also amazing with blueberries, raspberries OR peaches so if you feel like being adventurous break out and try new flavors!
What ingredients do you need for a milkshake?
The ingredient list for a homemade milkshake is short. You will need:
- Ripe Strawberries
- Milk
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Cool Whip
- Pure Vanilla Extract
Keep in mind, because there are minimal ingredients it is important to buy quality products. Ripe berries and a good ice cream are key. I enjoy Tillamook.
Do you have to use fresh berries in a strawberry milkshake?
Technically, no. You could use frozen berries in this milkshake. However, I would suggest thawing them first.
Keep in mind, frozen berries will not give you a robust flavor. I always recommend using fresh but have been known to use frozen in a pinch.
How to make a strawberry milkshake:
Making the milkshake is surprisingly simple. Follow these steps for a rich and creamy milkshake!
- Gather your ingredients.
- Place all ingredients into a blender.
- Blend 1-2 minutes or until smooth.
- Divide between two cups.
- Top with whipped cream and fresh berries.
Homemade Whipped Cream
A milkshake is never complete without whipped cream! Try making your own with just a few simple ingredients. Chill a mixing bowl and whisk attachment for your electric mixer. Pour your heavy cream into the chilled bowl. Whisk until thickened. Add a touch of sugar and continue to whip until light and fluffy.
Top your milkshake with a hefty spoonful!
