Why You’ll Love This Iced Latte
- Easy: I love the simplicity of this latte. It comes together quickly and tastes incredible.
- Minimal Ingredients: You need only five simple items to whip this up at home. It’s also incredibly simple to customize.
- Budget Friendly: Cheaper than buying this latte at your favorite coffee shop!
I’m on a mission to recreate all of my favorite coffee shop drinks. I already have a hefty list of almost 20 coffee recipes, but it seems like those seasonal flavors are always the ones I crave! THIS shaken espresso is easily my go-to whenever I’m craving something that is flavorful and not too sweet. My husband always knows that this drink is the best way to surprise me in the mornings.
I knew it was time for me to attempt to make my own version and I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. This latte is so easy to make! You only need a handful of ingredients and don’t have to buy fancy syrups, unless you want to that is. You can even make it with different milks and spices for fun variations that will make you feel like you are an expert barista in your own kitchen!
Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso Ingredients
This latte has a list of fairly basic ingredients, but I want to chat about some possible substitutions:
- Brown Sugar: I opted to make my own brown sugar syrup and it is SO SIMPLE. However, you can substitute this with a brown sugar syrup from the store.
- Cinnamon Stick: This is imperative to get that sweet cinnamon flavor in your drink syrup.
- Espresso: Starbucks uses a blonde roast, but any of your favorite espresso will work well with this latte. You can even use strong brewed coffee in a pinch.
- Ice and Oat Milk: Use your favorite. We taste tested a few and really loved the Califia. It’s a little thicker and leaves you with a rich flavor that is 10/10, in my opinion.
How To Make The Starbucks Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso
Like most of my coffee recipes, this tastes best with espresso but can also be made with a strong brewed coffee. Here’s how to make a shaken espresso at home:
- PREP: Brew two shots of espresso and place inside a 2 cup glass jar, about 3 oz total.
- SHAKE: Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of brown sugar syrup to the espresso. Fill the glass with ice. Close tightly with the lid and shake for 15 to 20 seconds, or until combined and frothy.
- TOP: Add 4-6 oz of oat milk over the top of the espresso, I like about 1/2 cup.
- ENJOY: Stir, sip and enjoy!
Lazy Coffee Hack:
Find yourself missing brown sugar syrup? Try this version:
- PREP: Add 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon water, and a small pinch of cinnamon to a 2 cup glass jar. Microwave for 10 seconds, or until the sugar is dissolved.
- BREW: Add 2 shots of espresso to the syrup, about 3 oz total.
- SHAKE: Fill the glass with ice. Close tightly with the lid and shake for 15 to 20 seconds, or until combined and frothy.
- TOP: Add 4-6 oz of oat milk over the top of the espresso, I like about 1/2 cup.
- ENJOY: Stir, sip and enjoy!
Helpful Tools
- Syrup: Here’s the deal, I really love how easy it is to make your own brown sugar syrup. However, you can find the Torani brown sugar syrup (affiliate) on amazon for around $20 and it lasts a decent amount of time.
- Espresso: Starbucks uses a blonde roast espresso (affiliate), which is what I use in my drink recipes.
- Espresso Machine: Here’s the thing, I like to keep things super simple. I recently purchased the mini Nespresso (affiliate) and holy smokes has it saved me so much time in the mornings. 10/10 recommend and definitely one of their more affordable options.
Recipe Notes:
Yes, you can use any type of espresso you prefer, whether it’s brewed from a traditional espresso machine, a stovetop Moka pot, or even a strong shot from a regular coffee maker. If you want it to taste close to the original, use a blonde roast.
Absolutely! While oat milk adds a creamy texture and subtle sweetness to the drink, you can substitute it with any other milk of your choice, such as almond milk, soy milk, or regular cow’s milk.
The amount of brown sugar can be adjusted according to your taste preferences. We recommend starting with one to two tablespoons and then adding more if desired.
Absolutely! Adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream can take this shaken espresso to a whole new level of indulgence.
Of course! You can use decaffeinated espresso or even substitute the espresso with strong decaf coffee for a caffeine-free version of this delicious drink.
