You only need TWO main ingredients for this simple candy recipe: chocolate and pretzels. You can use pretzel rods or pretzel twists, depending on your preference, and even add colored sprinkles to match the occasion.
What kind of chocolate is good for melting and dipping?
When making this chocolate covered pretzels recipe you want to pick a chocolate that has a higher ration of cocoa butter to cocoa. This helps it melt more smoothly without the chance of seizing.
You can also opt for an easier to find option of candy melts. Candy melts are available in a variety of colors and melts easily and dries with a smooth and shinny finish. This is what I reach for if I want a different color other than brown.
The best pretzels to use:
I mentioned above, but this recipe is incredibly versatile. You can use pretzel twist bites or pretzel rods and have a wonderful homemade candy. Be sure to use salted pretzels so you can enjoy that sweet and salty combination.
How To Make Chocolate Covered Pretzels From Scratch:
- Prep your workspace by laying out parchment or wax paper.
- Place the white candy melts into a glass 2 cup liquid measuring cup (affiliate).
- Microwave the candy melts on defrost for 1 minute and stir.
- Microwave 30 seconds. Stir until all lumps are melted.
- If you still have chocolate pieces and the mixture is not smooth, microwave 15 additional seconds.
- Working quickly, drop one pretzel twist into the melted chocolate.
- Use a fork to turn the pretzel once, fully coating in the chocolate.
- Carefully lift the pretzel out of the melted chocolate. Tap the bottom of the fork on the side of the measuring cup, allowing excess chocolate to fall, 2 to 5 times.
- Gently tap the fork onto the parchment allowing the pretzel to slide off.
- Repeat with the remaining pretzels.
- Once all of the pretzels have been dipped in the white chocolate, add 1/4 cup of red candy melts to a sandwich zip top bag. Microwave 15 to 20 seconds or until melted.
- Snip the corner of the bag with kitchen scissors.
- Working quickly, drizzle over the top of the pretzels.
- Repeat the process with the blue candy melts.
- Allow the pretzels to set, roughly 30 minutes, and transfer to an airtight container.
White Chocolate Covered Pretzels Tips and FAQs
- I really like to use these smaller silicone spatulas (affiliate) when working with chocolate. They are ideal for stirring and smoothing out the chocolate during the melting process.
- You can use regular chocolate in this recipe, just be sure to temper appropriately. Candy melts are perfect for beginners (or for a quicker treat) because it does not require the patience of tempering and gives you vibrant colors.
There is no need to keep chocolate dipped pretzels in the refrigerator. They can be stored at room temperature in a zip top bag or airtight container.
This easy candy recipe lasts up to two weeks. Although, we always eat them within a few days. Keep them stored at room temperature in a zip top bag or airtight container.
While for this recipe I use candy melts, to get the bold colors, the ideal chocolate for melting and dipping is couverture chocolate. This type has a higher ratio of butter to cocoa, which helps it melt smoothly and set quickly.
Yes! The mix of sweet from chocolate and salt from the pretzel makes these a snack made in heaven! These are so good and the perfect go-to snack.
