My little guy has a strong love for strawberries and it wasn’t until last summer that I finally talked him into trying a strawberry smoothie. The girl at the shop we stopped into was nice enough to take out the bananas from his drink and double up on the good stuff. He’s been an addict ever since. If I even suggest that there might be a small chance we can get a smoothie he will remind/nag me about it. All. Day. Long.
But buying one at a restaurant vs making my own has always been a challenge. They don’t ever taste the same. Has anyone noticed that? Seriously… I think the people over at Jamba juice have a special “perfection” powder/fairy dust they sprinkle over their drinks to make them extra delicious. Now that I’m the proud owner of a Blendtec I decided I should probably just jump right in and start making my own.
Lucky for me the very first recipe we tried turned out to be a winner! I’m a big fan of yogurt and am always looking for a way to incorporate it into our diets. I even think you could leave out the honey if your berries are sweet enough on their own. Maybe even throw in a banana for people who like that kind of thing.
I almost can’t call this a smoothie. It’s more like ice cream but healthy. If you add more milk I’m sure it will get that drink like consistency, but we love it extra thick and chilled. Especially on these warmer days.
So tell me… What are your favorite smoothie combinations? We need some variety and different versions to try out this summer!
