Why You’ll Love This Copycat Recipe
- Super Easy: Only 4 ingredients and ready in 10 minutes!
- Better Than The Original: This chick fil a frozen lemonade tastes better than the original and is cheaper to make!
- Family Favorite: We always have ingredients on hand to whip this up! Better than a milkshake!
I have to admit, when I lived in Texas, a friend got me HOOKED on this drink. The frosted lemonade is basically a lemon vanilla milkshake, and it is addicting. It is creamy, has a slight tang from the lemon, and is incredibly refreshing on a hot summer day.
We have been attempting to recreate this for years. I have tried recipe after recipe and FINALLY have discovered the most perfect combination of ingredients. This tastes better than the original and can be whipped up in just minutes. Proclaimed a family favorite, even from my very picky teen, and one we make over and over!
Chick Fil A Frosted Lemonade Ingredients
Frosted Lemonade is a cross between lemonade and vanilla ice cream. An almost milkshake consistency and incredibly popular thanks to the chain Chick-fil-A!. I can’t make claims as to what the official ingredients used in the Chick-fil-a version are, but here is the combination that I have found works the best, and gets you that classic flavor.
- Lemon juice: FRESH is best. In a pinch, you can use the bottled version, but to achieve that bold lemon taste, it is best to use ripe fresh lemons.
- Sugar: Regular white sugar. Just a pinch to help sweeten the lemon juice.
- Water: You want the water to be COLD. Ice cold. This will help keep the ice cream from melting.
- Ice Cream: Vanilla ice cream, to be exact. This is where a majority of the creamy vanilla flavor is going to come from. Pick a quality brand. We really like Tillamook.

This will give you two large milkshakes. We sometimes even divide this into 4 for smaller servings. If you’re serving a crowd you can easily double this Chick-Fil-A frozen lemonade!
- PREP: Squeeze the lemons until you get 1/2 cup lemon juice. Add to a large measuring cup.
- MIX: Whisk the sugar in with the lemon juice until incorporated with a small whisk, roughly 1 to 2 minutes.
- BLEND: Pour the lemon mixture into a blender with the cold water and ice cream. Pulse or blend 1 to 2 minutes, or until you reach a thick milkshake consistency.
- ENJOY: Divide into two glasses and enjoy!
Helpful Tools
- Lemon Juicer: A good lemon juicer will make extracting the juice simple and quick.
- Scoop: This ice cream scoop is the one I use. I love that it has a pointed edge. That helps scoop quickly and get all of the ice cream from the corners of the container.
- Blender: A good blender. I have two, and this cheaper one works great for milkshakes!
- Measuring Cups: This measuring cup with a strainer. That way you can strain the ice from your water without too much trouble. Bonus? It will be SO handy whenever you want to make gravy!
Recipe Notes:
A quick google search shows that Chick-Fil-A uses Sunkist brand lemons to make their famous lemonade. Fresh lemon juice really is going to be the best. You don’t need much, about 1/2 a cup. That is the equivalent of about one large lemon.Â
A few tips to help you extract the lemon juice; Warm the lemons in a bowl of water before starting and roll it on the table or counter before slicing. This helps to loosen things up and make juicing 100x easier.Â
Yes. However, it will taste slightly less like the original. I recommend using the Simply brand for a fresh flavor.
YES! This makes an amazingly delicious frosted lemonade cocktail. Simply add vodka or rum! I like to use lemon vodka to keep with the classic flavor.
This drink is best served immediately after making. However, if you have leftovers or want a prepped ahead version you can make that work!
Simply freeze the leftovers. When ready to enjoy. let it thaw slightly and reblend to reach the right consistency.

This is superb! I notice the recipe calls for 1/4 cup but the notes mention a 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
I also grate some of the rind or skin of the lemon and add that which makes it really lemony tasting. This is totally addicting, this drink. We’re so pleased we found this recipe this summer!!
