One of my favorite things in the entire world is a good slice of pizza. Especially when it’s smothered in the best pizza sauce.
When I was induced with my son five (almost six) years ago I was not prepared for the long day of no eating. Being pregnant is already miserable when you are that far along, but take away a pregnant ladies food and you’ve got a lot of emotional melt downs. I understood why they didn’t want my stomach full but it didn’t help comfort me much. I think I asked my husband to sneak me in a pizza over a dozen times. Lucky for me he had a hot pie waiting the very second I got the thumbs up from our doctor. My man is such a dream boat and totally knows the way to my heart.
I spent the first hour of my cute little chunky babies life with him in one hand and a slice in the other. Since that day we have gotten brave enough to make our very own homemade version and the crown jewel is this sauce. It’s creamy, has the perfect amount of seasonings, and an added kick brought in by a dash of red pepper flakes, but the best news is that you can FREEZE it. I almost always divide the recipe in half and store one for later. It is nice for a quick mini pizza lunch or do dip some of your extra rolls or breadsticks.
Once you’ve got the sauce ready to go just spread it onto a good pizza dough, top with fresh mozzarella, and maybe even some pepperoni!
- 1 6oz can tomato paste
- 3/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
- 1- teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon basil
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon parsley
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Slowly stir together the tomato paste and water adding only a tablespoon or two at a time. Leave out water if the sauce starts to become too thin.
- Whisk in the remaining ingredients and spread onto your favorite pizza dough.
