Tips and FAQs:
This is a great one for busy weeknights, weekends, parties, or pot lucks. Let’s walk through a few commonly asked questions:
What is the best cheese for making crock pot macaroni and cheese?
Here’s the deal. Using sharp cheddar is the classic. You cannot go wrong. It will taste insanely good.
However, I really enjoy switching things up with a mix of half cheddar half pepper jack. This also happens to be my kids all-time favorite. You could pick your favorite cheese and swap half of the cheddar out!
Can you put uncooked pasta in the slow cooker?
I have not had success with uncooked pasta.
How to make this recipe in the oven:
You definitely can bake this recipe! Stir together all of the ingredients, minus 1/2 cup of cheese. Place in a baking dish, sprinkle with cheese, and bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes. Or until your macaroni is bubbly.

Want to make this a meal? Add broccoli, cooked sausage, chicken… Don’t be afraid to get creative!

Slow Cooker Macaroni And Cheese
Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese. This easy recipe is the perfect weeknight dinner! Add all of your ingredients to a slow cooker and let the flavors blend together.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 can creamed soup, I recommend cheddar or cream of chicken
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2-1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, divided
- 2 cups macaroni noodles (about 8 oz.), cooked al dente
Instructions
- Stir the first 7 ingredients together in a slow cooker, I use a 4 qt.
- Stir in 2 cups of the cheese and fold in the noodles.
- Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours.
- Top with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
Notes
Be sure not to overcook the noodles. They need to be cooked al dente, which is typically 1 minute less than the cooking directions.
We also enjoy substituting half of the cheese with Pepper Jack.
I suggest shredding your own cheese. Pre shredded cheese does not melt as creamy as block.
