TURKEY WRAP INGREDIENTS
The ingredients listed below are what we decided to put into our wraps. I will mention, my son does not care for avocado, but we left it inside his wrap. He didn’t even notice it was there.
- Cream Cheese- We have made this with both regular cream cheese AND cream cheese with chives. The later tends to be the family favorite.
- Dijon mustard- Dijon has a deeper flavor than the classic yellow mustard. Paired with the cream cheese, it gives you the most incredible spread base for your wrap. Spreading this on the tortilla first also helps keep your tortilla from getting soggy.
- Tortillas- We like to use homemade tortillas, but really and tortilla will work. Many people like to use spinach tortillas for their wraps.
- Lettuce – Iceberg is the go-to of many, but we prefer romaine.
- Turkey- I like to get our turkey from the deli counter. Boars Head is a family favorite (not sponsored, just like the product). It has a great flavor and so many varieties.
- Swiss Cheese – Not a fan of Swiss? No problem! Swap it for cheddar.
- Tomato- I like to grab fresh tomatoes, if available, or you can pick up on the vine varieties from your grocery store. They tend to be just a tad fresher in the off season.
- Avocado- Tip: You want your avocado to be slightly firm, but still able to feel a little give when you gently press in with your thumb.
- Bacon- Thick cut! Try baking in your oven for super quick prep.
- Salt and pepper
HOW TO MAKE TURKEY ROLL UPS
- Add the cream cheese and Dijon into a small dish. Stir to combine.
- Spread 1-2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture onto each tortilla, spreading 1/4 inch from the edge.
- Layer the lettuce, turkey, bacon, Swiss, avocado, and tomato in the bottom third of your tortilla.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Fold, burrito style, being sure to fold in the ends of the tortilla.
- Slice in half, slightly diagonal, and serve.
- Keep the spread and ingredients at least 1/4 inch from the edge. We sometimes even keep it 1/2 inch if there are bulk ingredients.
TURKEY WRAP SAUCE
If you are anything like me, sauce is king. This recipe doesn’t really NEED it, but boy-oh-boy does it taste delicious with a dip! We even own these little condiment containers (affiliate) for packing sauce in lunchboxes! Here are a few suggestions on what to use as a sauce for your wraps:
- Ranch Dressing: A classic that never goes out of style.
- Fry Sauce: This recipe from my friend Like Mother Like Daughter is a staple in our home.
- Southwest Sauce: You can find southwest sauce with the other dressings in most grocery stores. It is delicious!
TIPS FOR THIS RECIPE
This turkey avocado wrap could be considered healthy, as long as you load up the turkey and put a lot of veggies. It does container more carbs and sodium, so be mindful of your ingredient list.
Yes! Turn this into turkey lettuce wraps by substituting iceberg lettuce for the tortillas.
Heat your tortillas for 7 to 10 seconds in the microwave before assembly. This will keep them from falling apart as you roll them. I also suggest keeping to flour tortillas vs corn, as corn will be more likely to tear.
It is best to eat this recipe within 12 hours of making. The vegetables, especially the avocado, will start to soften the longer it sits.
Wrap the pre-made wraps in plastic as tightly as possible, or place in air tight containers, and keep stored in the refrigerator.
We find that a “burrito style” wrap works best for this recipe. Keep the ingredients and spread at least 1/4 inch from the sides and tuck the ends as you roll.
